From solo adventures to group getaways--each has its own magic!

Traveling is one of the most enriching experiences, but choosing whether to go solo or with a group can shape your journey in completely different ways. Having done both, I’ve experienced the highs and lows of each. So, if you're wondering whether to book your next trip alone or with friends, here’s abreakdown of the pros and cons of solo vs. group travel—plus my personal take on each!

🌍 Solo Travel: The Ultimate Freedom

Pros:

Total Independence – You control the itinerary, pace, and budget without compromise.

Self-Discovery & Growth – Travel solo, and you’ll gain confidence, problem-solving skills, and resilience.

More Flexibility – Change plans on a whim without worrying about group preferences. ✔ Easier Local Connections – Locals and fellow travelers are often more likely to engage with solo explorers.

What I Love About Solo Travel:

For me, solo travel perfectly aligns with my introverted nature. It gives me the perfect opportunity to enjoy much-needed me-time, reflect, and fully immerse myself in new places at my own pace. There’s something incredibly freeing about waking up and deciding what the day holds, with no compromises.

Staying connected while solo traveling is essential. I always carry my Sabani Portable Charger to keep my phone charged during long exploration days.

Cons:

Loneliness Can Happen – Sometimes, not having a companion to share experiences with can feel isolating.

Higher Costs – No one to split accommodation, transport, or meals with.

All Responsibilities Fall on You – Planning, safety, and navigating unfamiliar places are all on you.

I use GetYourGuide to book tours and experiences in advance, making solo travel smoother and stress-free.

👫 Group Travel: Shared Memories & Connection

Pros:

Built-in Companionship – Sharing experiences with friends or family makes travel even more memorable.

Cost Savings – Splitting hotel rooms, rides, and group tours can save money.

Safer for Certain Destinations – Having people around can make exploring unfamiliar areas feel more secure.

Less Planning Stress – Delegating responsibilities can ease trip planning pressures.

What I Love About Group Travel:

The best part about group travel for me is the energy and excitement I get from everyone involved. I also genuinely love the planning process, especially since my travel group consists of fellow teachers who are also my friends. Since we all live in different states now, our planned trips a few times a year are our chance to catch up, reconnect, and spend quality time together—and that makes every trip even more special.

When booking group trips, I love using Expedia.com to find accommodations that fit our budget and group size.

Cons:

Less Flexibility – Group decisions mean you might not get to do everything on your list.

Different Travel Styles & Preferences – Conflicting interests (early risers vs. night owls, adventure seekers vs. relaxers) can create tension.

Slower Pace – More people mean more waiting and adjustments to accommodate everyone.

Splitting travel expenses can get complicated. We use Splitwise to track and fairly divide costs while traveling in a group.

🏆 My Verdict: Which One Do I Prefer?

Honestly, both solo and group travel have their place, and it depends on the destination and personal goals. When I crave deep self-reflection and a trip on my own terms, solo travel wins. But when I want laughter, shared memories, and a much-needed reunion with my favorite travel crew, group trips are unbeatable.

Ultimately, the best way to know what’s right for you is to try both! What’s your favorite way to travel? Drop a comment below—I’d love to hear your experiences!
